Setting Up a Tier: Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps to configure your tier structure:

The Tier section allows you to define how you want to reward your direct advocates. You can create a fixed or variable tier to make your reward campaign more engaging and appealing to your audience.
Please Note: By default, when you open a Genius Referrals account, we create your first referral marketing campaign. The details of your default campaign are based on the input entered into the onboard process. You can always edit or customize your campaign whenever you want.

Each plan has a different limit for the number of reward campaigns running simultaneously. See our plans and pricing here.

Accessing the Tier Section

To find the Tier section:

1- Navigate to Reward Campaigns:
  • Click on Program Settings in the left-side navigation menu.
  • Select Reward Campaigns to access the campaign section.
2- Edit Your Reward Campaign:
  • In the upper-right corner of the editor, click the Edit Reward Campaign button to make changes to your campaign.
3-Configure Tiers:
  • Go to the Tiers section and click Edit to open the tier configuration.
  • A modal window titled Edit Tier will appear, where you can adjust your tier settings as needed.
4- Save Your Changes:
  • After making your desired adjustments, click Save to apply the updates to your campaign.

Step 1: Select a Tier Type

Tiers define how rewards are allocated based on the number of referrals made or the total bonuses earned. Every reward campaign must include at least one tier.

From the dropdown menu, choose one of the following tier types:

  • Referral: Rewards advocates based on the total number of referrals they generate.
  • Bonuses: Rewards advocates based on the total bonus amount they’ve earned.
Step 2: Define the Bonus Value

You can define how the reward is calculated—either with a fixed amount or a percentage of a referral's purchase.

From the dropdown menu, choose one of the following options:
  • Percentage: The advocate earns a percentage of the referral’s purchase.
  • Fixed: The advocate earns a fixed amount per referral.
Step 3: Set a Date Range (Optional)

By default, tiers have no time restrictions. However, you can set a specific time frame if needed.

To apply a date range:

  1. Open the Date Range dropdown menu.
  2. Select the desired time frame (e.g., "Last 7 Days").
  3. Click Save to confirm your selection.
Example: Reward Campaign with a Defined Date Range

You can set a specific date range for your reward campaign, such as the "last 7 days," to ensure that rewards are granted only for referrals generated within that timeframe.

For example, if you want to reward advocates with $5 for generating three or more referrals within the past 7 days, configure your campaign as follows:
  1. Set the date range to "Last 7 Days."
  2. Define the reward rule:
  • 3+ referrals = $5 within the last 7 days.
This setup ensures that only referrals made within the specified period contribute to the advocate's eligibility for rewards, keeping your campaign focused and time-sensitive.
How to Add a Single-Tier Campaign
A single-tier campaign allows you to reward your direct advocates with a fixed or variable bonus. You can also apply a date range if needed.
Example: One Tier Campaign

If you want to set up a reward campaign with one tier, where your advocate earns $5 after a friend completes a purchase. The setup should be as follows:

Tier:
  • 1 + referral = $5
How to Add a Multi-Tiered Campaign
A multi-tiered campaign is a great way to make your referral program more attractive. It allows you to reward your advocates with different bonuses based on the tier they reach. You can create unlimited tiers.
Please Note: Multi-tiered campaigns are only available on certain Genius Referrals plans. See our plans and pricing for more details.
Example: Multi-Tiered Campaign

If you want the set up a reward campaign with three tiers where your advocates earn $5 for the first 5 referrals, $8 from the 6th to the 10th referral, and $10 after the 10th referral. The setup should be as follow:

Multi-Tiered:
  • 1 + Referral = $5
  • 6 + Referral = $8
  • 10 + Referral = $10
Tier Breakdown:

Tier 1: The advocate earns $5 per referral for the first 5 referrals. The total an advocate can earn on this tier is $25 ($5 * 5). Once the advocate generates the 6th referral, he will be processed using the rules set on tier 2.

Tier 2: The advocate earns $8 per referral from the 6th to the 10th referral. The total an advocate can earn in this tier is $32 ($8 * 4). Once the advocate generates the 10th referral, he will be processed using the rules set on tier 3.

Tier 3: The advocate $10 per referral. As there is no limit on the total number of bonuses the advocate can receive in this tier, he will receive $10 every time he generates a new referral.

Setting up a multi-tiered structure encourages advocates to keep referring more people, increasing engagement and participation in your referral program.
